Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Inc. and Hokkaido Electric Power Network, Inc., as responsible energy suppliers, fulfill their social mission of "stable power supply" while practicing the management principles of "respect for humanity," "contribution to the community," and "efficient management." By doing so, they support the regional economy and the lives of their customers, and work towards the sustainable growth of their business and the realization of a sustainable society.
As a concrete measure for this, they promote health management, under the basic stance that "protecting safety and health takes precedence over all business activities." They aim to create a favorable workplace where each employee can continue to work healthily, "brightly and positively," "with an active attitude," and "with a rich heart and sincerity." Through this, they build a solid business foundation and steadily meet the expectations of stakeholders such as customers, employees and their families, suppliers, and shareholders.
Additionally, investing in "human capital" through health initiatives contributes to enhancing the trust and sense of security from the local community. The company and the health insurance association actively engage in employee health promotion, and the president himself periodically sends out messages such as the "Health Management Declaration" to the entire company to promote understanding and encouragement among.
Declaration of Health and Productivity Management
Aiming towards the fulfilment of its mission of ceaselessly providing Hokkaido with electricity to support the local economy and livelihoods, HEPCO must ensure that every employee stays driven and fulfills their potential at work.
What is of the utmost importance for this purpose is that employees remain in good health, both physically and mentally, which requires us to raise their awareness of the importance of health.
We engage in various activities from the perspective of health and productivity management* whereby investment in employees' health is viewed as a corporate philosophy because their health management leads to greater corporate productivity and bottom-line results.
HEPCO will work together with all employees and the health insurance association to create a pleasant workplace environment where everyone pays attention to and verbally checks on each other's health by encouraging workplace communication, while also taking initiatives to have all employees undergo regular health examinations and utilize examination results to improve their lifestyle habits, such as exercise and diet.
Based on our firm resolution to put health and safety before anything else, we aim to promote the health management of employees by helping them stay fit and making the workplace even more pleasant.

*Health and productivity management is an approach that considers the health management of employees from a corporate management perspective and promotes it strategically based on the idea that investment in employees' health will lead to higher corporate productivity and profitability.
In the promotion system, the Central Safety and Health Committee (comprising representatives of labor and management, and a dedicated health management department) regularly discusses and actively debates to promote effective initiatives based on health issues through the PDCA cycle.
Additionally, the representative director in charge of health management oversees the Health Management Promotion Committee, considering policies based on the opinions of employees and the health insurance association. Relevant matters are reported and coordinated in management meetings and other forums.
In particular, to promote "collabo-health" (close collaboration with the company) with the health insurance association, effective health projects that contribute to maintaining and improving the health of employees and their families (dependents), as well as maintaining stable financial foundations and insurance premium rates, are discussed and deliberated.
Health nurses and other professionals provide individual health guidance to all employees.
The results of regular health check-ups show a high rate of findings in items such as blood pressure and lipids, which are closely related to lifestyle habits such as diet and exercise. Detailed advice is given to improve these lifestyle habits.
Additionally, based on each individual's health issues, the occupational health staff and the Health Management Promotion Office (Human Resources and Labor Department) lead cross-sectional responses that transcend company and organizational boundaries. This aims to improve the workplace environment to be "healthy both physically and mentally and easy to work in."

To encourage behavior change among employees with low interest in health promotion and to establish voluntary health promotion in the workplace, we designate the month of October each year as the company-wide "Autumn Health Promotion Campaign" period. During this month, various activities are conducted in each workplace.
During the period, we provide opportunities to raise health awareness, such as holding a "Walking Rally" as a common event for all employees.
In addition to this period, each business site also engages in various activities aimed at promoting health.
We conduct "Health Literacy Education" aimed at improving the acquisition and application of health knowledge for all employees. Additionally, we provide e-learning education with specialized content tailored for specific groups, such as managers and female employees.
Furthermore, we regularly conduct training sessions such as "Mental Health Training" for managers.

We actively support our business partners in their efforts by sharing our expertise in health management initiatives. Additionally, we engage in joint implementation of health measures and work to promote and deepen the understanding of "health management" within the community.
From the perspective of enhancing the overall health of the community, we will continue to support sports and cultural activities for youth and others, and also engage in social education to foster a health-conscious mindset.

(Flow of "Management Issues to be Solved," "Expected Effects," and "Specific Initiatives" in Our Health Management Initiatives)
We position health management initiatives as a crucial foundation for "sustainable business development" and "enhancing trust and reassurance in the local community." Through improvements in work engagement and other areas, we aim to build a solid business foundation and enhance productivity and corporate value.
Specifically, we define management issues as "improving productivity-related factors associated with turnover, sick leave, and workplace environment." We monitor improvement status using indicators such as "lifestyle disease risk," "absenteeism and presenteeism," and "work engagement." We implement various measures throughout the year, including health events that all employees can participate in and issue-specific events for individuals facing challenges such as smoking or being at risk of metabolic syndrome.
